Faker claims 6th Worlds win, T1 edge out KT Rolster 3-2 in the Grand Finals

Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok and the T1 squad won their grueling Best-of-Five series against fellow Korean powerhouse KT Rolster 3-2 in an enthralling Grand Finals at the Dong’an Lake Sports Park Gymnasium in Chengdu, China that went the distance. This marks T1’s third consecutive Worlds Championship win, while Faker’s sixth chip in total further cements his legacy as the greatest League of Legends player of all time. Bot player Lee ‘Gumayusi’ Min-hyung bagged the Finals MVP for T1 with consistent performances throughout.

A duel of South Korean telecom giants

The Grand Finals kicked off with KT Rolster dominating the early game and Jeong ‘Peter’ Yoon-su having his best game of Worlds so far. Peter was highly criticized as the weakest performer of KT Rolster and he came to play in Game 1. But Faker could not be denied in Game 1 on his Taliyah with a flawless 3-0-19 showing.

In Game 2, KT Rolster wanted to equalize the series and it was Gwak ‘Bdd’ Bo-sung on his Mel who the team on his back. Faker’s Silas was trying to make some plays for T1 but KT Rolster clearly wanted to make it a series to tie it at 1-1.

Momentum was on the side of KT Rolster in Game 3. Mun ‘Cuzz’ U-chan’s jungle Dr. Mundo became an invincible tank against T1. Cuzz racked up an impressive 7-0-11 scoreline to give KT Rolster the 2-1 lead in the Grand Final.

With defeat staring them down in Game 4, T1 relied on Mun ‘Oner’ Hyeon-jun on the Nocturne with impecable objective taking and Smites throughout the game. T1 also had the advantage of a first pick Kalista and a surprise Anivia for Faker. It was an easy Game 4 for T1 as they forced a deciding Game 5.


Game 5 began in T1’s favor with them picking up a Galio-Camille combo. T1 was mostly in control with signs of life from KT Rolster for the ultimate upset. But Gumayusi’s Miss Fortune stabilized the ship for T1 as they claimed their back-to-back-to-back Worlds Championship.
